Maternity Photography – Second at the Newborn & Portrait Show

This week I was over the moon to have have placed second in the Maternity Photography section of the competition at the Newborn and Portrait Show in Coventry. The awards are a huge deal, full of the UK’s big named photographers in my genre and this was the first time I had entered so I didn’t expect much.

The competition is split into print and digital and as I wanted to go to the Gala dinner, I entered the digital competition with just a single maternity image. I found out a few days later that my entry had become a finalist and on the night, it was an anxious wait before they announced the placements.

I had my 5 minutes of fame on stage, sporting a sparkly dress and collecting my certificate infront of all my peers! It’s no secret that I have won multiple awards with my newborn photography, but to place second in Maternity Photography was a massive surprise.

Photographing pregnancy is amazing – I just love meeting expectant parents and chatting about their hopes and dreams for the tiny baby they are carrying. Everyone is so happy and excited, so it’s one of my favourite sessions, alongside the newborn just a few months later!

The winning image is of one of my clients, Saskia. The hat was hers and and as soon as she got it out of her bag, I was planning how best to photograph her with it. I think it brings an individual sense of style and of course she is blooming gorgeous too, which helps! 🙂 You can see more from Saskia’s session in my blog:
